Block Breaker is a free browser take on the arcade brick-breaker: bounce the ball off your paddle, smash every block on the screen, and catch falling capsules to trigger fourteen different power-ups — from multiball and fireball to laser cannons and a floor shield. Twenty hand-built levels lead into an endless mode that never stops getting harder. Every block, ball and particle is drawn procedurally on canvas and every sound is synthesised in the browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to wait for.

How It Works

Slide your finger or move the mouse to steer the paddle, or use the arrow keys or A and D. Tap or press Space to launch the ball. Where the ball lands on the paddle decides where it goes, so hit it near an edge for a sharp angle, or move the paddle into the ball to add spin. Clear every coloured block to finish a level — steel blocks shrug off a normal ball and need a fireball, a laser or a blast.

There are fourteen. Eleven help you: Wide Paddle, Multiball, Extra Life, Fireball, Laser Paddle, Sticky Paddle, Slow Ball, Floor Shield, Magnet, Double Score and Blast Charges. Three work against you: Narrow Paddle, Speed Up and Reversed Controls. Power-downs are always red with hazard stripes, so you can choose to let them fall.
How do I break steel blocks?
A normal ball bounces off steel. Use the Fireball power-up to burn through it, a Laser Paddle bolt to shoot it, or a Blast Charge or explosive block to blow it up.
How many levels does Block Breaker have?
Twenty hand-designed levels, after which endless mode generates new layouts that keep getting faster and denser. Your best score and furthest level are saved in your browser.
How do I get a high score?
Keep rallies going. Every block you break before the ball returns to the paddle raises your combo multiplier up to ×3, so clearing a cluster in one trip is worth far more than one block at a time. Stack Double Score with a long combo, and finish levels with lives to spare for the bonus.

Your high score and the highest level you have reached are stored locally in your browser. No account is needed and nothing is uploaded.
